Book Review: Lenore – Purple Nurples
Humorous, Macabre Graphic Novel
We just got the chance to check Lenore: Purple Nurples, the new collection of Roman Dirge‘s macabre comic strip.
If you’re not familiar with Lenore, the cute little dead girl, then you don’t know what you’ve been missing! It’s a macabre, black comedy about the life (or unlife?) of Lenore, and her odd friends. It takes place in a small town called Nevermore.
In this volume:
Beware the Creepig Creeping/Wrath of the Creepig: Lenore has an encounter with the most monstrous creature of all time, the Creepig! A seriously epic battle soon follows. Really, you just have to see it.
The Dweller in the Fridge: Lenore’s friends try to find a dead clown that disappeared in the mansion, so they search the whole house, only to discover that it’s somehow bigger on the inside (a proper Doctor Who reference is made). As they’re doing that, Lenore is in the kitchen, trying to make a sandwich. That’s not as easy as it sounds.
King for a Day!: Once Lenore finds out that her new bug has only one day to live, she sets out to give it a memorable day before it dies. Of course, things don’t exactly go smoothly the whole time.
I read this the other night, and couldn’t put it down. The stories are humorous, slightly (and awesomely) creepy, interesting characters, and the drawing style is simply a lot of fun to look at. Overall it’s a very entertaining read, I recommend this series to anyone who loves dark humor, and awesomeness. Who doesn’t love awesomeness?
I love what the Los Angels Times has to say about this series, “An unholy reunion between Tim Burton and Dr. Seuss.”
We will definitely have to check out the rest of the books. I noticed that Lenore plushies are coming soon, I really need to get one of those!
Lenore – Purple Nurples (Vol.5) will be released on August 27, 2013.
