Creepy Book Suggestions

Getting lost in books and graphic novels is a great way to spend free time, and in the month of October I like reading certain genres. Spooky, creepy stuff that sometimes stays with you after reading it.

The Absence by Martin Stiff – While Marwood struggles to rebuild some semblance of life for himself, in a village where no other man came back from the war, the newly-arrived and enigmatic Dr. Robert Temple is building a strange house for himself, on the hill overlooking the town.

When the men meet, suspicions and secrets begin to pile up between them. Clay is consumed by visions of a nightmarish past he cannot remember, Temple by visions of a future he cannot prevent.

Lenore the Cute Little Dead Girl by Roman Dirge – Lenore might only be small, but her talent for mischief — and occasional wanton destruction — is anything but. Featuring stories about limbless cannibals, clock monsters, cursed vampire dolls, taxidermied friends, an obssesed would-be lover and more fuzzy animal mutilations than should be legal, never has the term ‘something for everyone’ seemed more sinister and bizarre.

Horrorstor by Grady Hendrix – Something strange is happening at the Orsk furniture superstore in Cleveland, Ohio. Every morning, employees arrive to find broken Kjerring bookshelves, shattered Glans water goblets, and smashed Liripip wardrobes. Sales are down, security cameras reveal nothing, and store managers are panicking.

To unravel the mystery, three employees volunteer to work a nine-hour dusk-till-dawn shift. In the dead of the night, they’ll patrol the empty showroom floor, investigate strange sights and sounds, and encounter horrors that defy the imagination.

Penpal by Dathan Auerbach – A man investigates the seemingly unrelated bizarre, tragic, and horrific occurrences of his childhood in an attempt to finally understand them. Beginning with only fragments of his earliest years, you’ll follow the narrator as he discovers that these strange and horrible events are actually part of a single terrifying story that has shaped the entirety of his life and the lives of those around him.
