Nerd Nostalgia: AZN Television

Nerd Nostalgia: AZN Television

Once upon a time, here in America, we had a cable TV channel called “International Channel”, which later became AZN Television. It launched in 1990, and sadly closed down in 2008.

Today I was feeling some nostalgia for shows I use to watch on there, and was struggling to remember the names of some, so I started doing some research, and that all led to this post.

Dramas and Comedies:

Achar! – This was a comedy about an interracial married couple that I remember enjoying. I can’t remember too much when it comes to the details, but hey, at least I found the name of it!

Living with Lydia – In writing this post I discovered that the star of the show, Lydia Shum passed away in 2008. Sad loss, she was a funny lady and I enjoyed her show.

Then there is one I could not find, and can hardly remember what it was about, but I do remember enjoying it and looking forward to watching. If my memory serves it was either Japanese or Korean, the two leads were a male, I believe he was a detective (maybe?), and a female… well, I’m not sure… Was she a ghost? Was she a girl with visions? Was she someone tormented? I remember there was something different about her, but I can’t put my finger on it. I feel like she had something supernatural about her (I could be wrong). I know the show was creepy, but for the life of me I can’t remember exactly what it was, and it’s driving me crazy.

Anime:

These were actually easy to remember the names of, here are a few favorites I use to watch on AZN: Fushigi Yugi, Slayers, Sonic X, and Revolutionary Girl Utena. Fushigi Yugi, by the way, was my favorite.

Other Stuff:

It was also this network that introduced me to some great JPop & JRock bands, one of my favorites being L’Arc~en~Ciel. They also had some variety shows, and even a reality show, but I can’t remember the names of those, even though I watched them.

In conclusion, I am sad this network didn’t last, and I wish it could make a comeback. I really miss it. Does anyone else remember AZN Television?
