Are Your 90s Toys Valuable?

I’ve seen a few articles about how valuable our 90s toys, games, and various collectibles have become. Except, there was a HUGE problem with those articles. Most are giving you false hopes and information.

How do we determine the value of an item?
Value is based on what people are willing to pay, and that can change, depending on supply and demand. Which is why proper research always needs to be done. One of the best ways to determine value is to go on eBay, there is an option to search for “sold items”, this will show you what people are willing to pay, since they actually have paid those prices. For example, a black label Luigis Mansion, in case, with manual, has been sold between $50-70. Someone even sold a sealed players choice edition for over $200.

But, after checking the sold listing, you would want to check how many are currently up for auction, and see if they have any bids on them. Current market value may be different than before, if others tried to latch on to the popularity of something. Because that can lead to the market becoming flooded, and effecting the price. Another thing that factors into the value of an item is the condition. Someone might have sold something, that you also own, for a decent amount of money. But is yours in the same condition? Was theirs “like new”, and yours is worn or broken? Condition of the item plays a big part in the value.

from what I could tell, some of the articles I saw didn’t do proper research, others just used clickbait titles. It looked like a big part of what some of them did was a random google search, or looked at what people are trying to sell an item for. That isn’t to say the items they mentioned aren’t valuable, many of them are, just not for anywhere near what those articles would have you think.

Let’s go over a few of our old favorite toys:

Two of the biggest lies you have been told: Your 90s Beanie Babies, and old Disney VHS tapes are valuable. They really aren’t. Sure, there is a random beanie baby here and there that might sell well, but overall… They are practically worthless. And Disney VHS tapes are a dime a dozen.

Certain collectible cards from TCG’s are worth money, especially Pokemon. Bundles of Pokemon cards can usually fetch a decent price. Your classic video games, and classic 80s & 90s consoles, controllers, etc are often worth money. Certain 90s anime related things can be valuable, like “vintage” Sailor Moon stuff.

Hot Wheels, if you were a collector of them, are also something worth looking into. They’re not all valuable, but some can sell for a nice price. LEGO brick bundles, certain sets, and fig bundles, can also fetch a decent price.

Polly Pockets:
Depending on what you have, the value can vary. for example, Polly Pocket house sets, complete with all items, used, can sell for $30, give or take. Now, if you’re lucky enough to have something like the Sparkling Mermaid Adventure Storybook, you can get a bit more money, someone has sold one for $175. Overall, those 90s Polly Pockets toys do have some value.

Sky Dancers:
If you have Galoob Sky Dancers from the 90s, and are lucky enough to have one in box, you might be able to make a little bit of money. Someone sold a mint condition Sky Dancer for $172. Overall though, prices can vary from only a few dollars, to $60.

Tamagotchi & Giga Pets:
90s Tamagotchi and Giga Pets, especially in package, might have some value. Depending on what it is, and condition, they can sell between $30-$70+.

Furby:
One of my least favorite things from the 90s. These can be somewhat valuable, but, as usual, it really depends on what you have. This is why research is important. People will even buy them not working. Overall, they can sell between $20-$70+.

These were the things that stuck out in my head from the 90s, let me know if there are favorites you remember and loved. I know I forgot a lot of stuff from the 90s, that I would probably be happy to be reminded of again.
