Disney Movie Club is Evil

Disney Movie Club is Evil

From the title I think you can get where my review of Disney Movie Club is going.

It seems simple enough, you basically log on once a month and cancel if you don’t want that months featured title (sometimes there is more than one featured title, so you need to be carful about that). But it is VERY easy to lose track of logging in, and you can simply forget they exist when real world stuff gets in the way. They will also send you emails telling you to cancel your featured title by a certain date, but it’s also easy to overlook emails. Is some of that customer error? Of course. But let’s be honest, they purposely choose to make it so you can easily mess up, that is how they get your money.

One of my other small issues with them is, when you choose a certain format, for example I chose Bluray, they will send you the more expensive upgrade to 4K because “it includes a BluRay”. But I specifically did not chose 4K when I signed up, because I didn’t want it. If I didn’t chose it, there is no good excuse for sending it to me. So if you don’t catch that on a featured title you want, and switch it to your chosen format, you end up spending more than you meant to, and they know this.

Here is one of my biggest problems with them, and this is on them, and not customer error. You have to CALL to cancel membership, when it would be incredibly easy to have a way to cancel online, but they don’t want it to be easy. They want people to call for a couple of reasons. One, many people don’t like to make calls, and they are betting on that. Two, they try to pressure you into not cancelling your membership, hence why they want you to call. And you have to be VERY clear with them you want to cancel, because if you sound wishy washy at all, maybe you’re worried you will sound mean to the cast member, they will use that to not cancel your account. So get mean, but only if you have to. They seem to be trained to mess with your head. You hear that human voice, and some people cave to pressure.

Now, let’s talk about their horrible return policy. Another of my biggest gripes with them. You do not get your money back, you only get credit. If you somehow forgot to cancel the order, then don’t even open the package, and just send it back, you only get credit. So if you needed that money for something else, you’re screwed. Just give people their money back.

In short, joining starts out sounding like a deal, and a good idea. They know that, it’s how they draw you in. And I know people will make excuses, and say, “well, just remember to cancel your featured title each month.” But there is a problem in the fact their entire plan is purposely designed around finding ways to screw you out of money. That is where my issues with them come in, they could be way more user friendly, and not set up to look like a scam. If they just make a few changes, like offering online cancelation, and giving people their money back for unopened returns, then we’re good.
