Geek Thoughts: Jem and the Holograms Trailer

As a teenage girl I remember loving the Jem and the Holograms cartoon. Sure it was cheesy, but that was one of the reasons I liked it. So it grabbed my attention when I heard they were making a live action movie.

Of course I assumed they would modernize it in some way, but I was hoping for it to remain somewhat true to the old cartoon. Which, in my opinion, would have made a great campy movie. Sadly the only similarities are the character names, and the fact that they are a group of girls playing music. I’m pretty sure everyone involved with this movie has never seen even one episode of the cartoon.

This so-called version of Jem and the Holograms is about a girl who reaches stardom because her sister secretly put a video on YouTube of her singing. Jerrica struggles with her sudden success, and the problems it brings. Which may not be a bad movie in general, but this is NOT Jem and the Holograms. It’s a disappointment to any fan of the Jem cartoon.

This trailer is truly outrageous, that’s for sure.
