Watching: YouTube

It’s been a long time since I’ve done one of these types of posts, so I figured it’s time for an update, but I suspect some of the same stuff will be listed. Some will be “new” (to me) because there is always something to discover on YouTube.

Sometimes I wish YouTube had categories to find channels, like streaming services do. Ones just for original creators, and not the clips from actual television shows. Do you know what I mean? It would make it a lot easier to find channels of interest, and new creators. They kind of try with the “More from YouTube” section but, it doesn’t seem to have the same effect.

Lifestyle & Entertainment:
The main kind of shows I watch on YouTube fall into this category, these are just a few of my favorites.

Good Mythical Morning (and GMMore)- I have been watching Rhett & Link for around 11 years, pretty consistently. GMM is basically a comedy variety show. They sometimes have celebrity guests, they play unique games, and even perform experiments, and… well, they do a lot.

Sharmeleon – Sharla is a Canadian girl living in Japan. She does a lot of lifestyle vlogs about living in Japan, and visits a lot of places. Her vlogs make me want to go on a visit, and hang out!

Watcher – I recently discovery this one, this channel started in January 2020, and features Ryan & Shane (who I originally knew from BuzzFeed). They have shows on food, travel, and horror. I particularly like “Too Many Spirits”.

Food Shows:
I’ve been weirdly obsessed with food channels lately, here are a few I love.

The Domestic Geek – Sara Lynn Cauchon dishes out some yummy recipes. So many things I want to make, and so little time. I discovered her when I was looking for seasonal recipes.

Emmy Made in Japan – I discovered her a few years back, she usually cooks something interesting, and she just seems so sweet. It’s a “simple” channel, which gives me the “good old days” vibe.

Feast of Fiction – A fun cooking show dedicated to creating the foods we love in some of our favorite fictional worlds.

Home Improvement/Make Over:
These are the only two channels I watch in this category. Feel free to suggest more.

Mr. Kate – This channel features an adorable husband and wife interior design team, who work on a budget. I discovered them about  3 years ago, and just enjoy watching them transform a room. Join me, and become a creative weirdo!

House Improvements – This is a how-to, DIY channel. Really informative, and worth checking out. The guy who runs the channel is a professional with many years of experience.

True Crime:
This is a category I recently got into, thanks to being furloughed earlier this year during lockdown.

Kendall Rae – She is a true crime YouTuber, and sometimes even has family members on, of the person she is featuring in the episode. She actually started out as a beauty vlogger, then one day made a video about true crime, and then just went with it from there.

Ask a Mortician – Your host for this show is Caitlin Doughty, a mortician. It’s not just about true crime, but other things as well, death related, obviously.

Yeah, I know I left out certain channels that could have been featured under some of these categories, and there are categories I totally left out (like gamers). But if I did it was probably because it’s content I don’t watch much anymore, or their content changed, or they don’t post as much as they once did, if at all. Also, you may know some channels I haven’t discovered yet.

What are you guys watching on YouTube these days? Please leave some suggestions, or let me know what I left out!
