Favorite Video Games of 2012

Favorite Video Games of 2012

It’s the end of the year, actually it’s New Year’s Eve as I’m starting this, so of course we have to do a cliche “Favorite ___________ of Year ____” post! I’m going with video games today, cause I love my video games!

So, let’s get started!

Assassin’s Creed 3

Assassin's Creed 3 Connor

Honestly, I’ve been bored with Assassin’s Creed. I hadn’t actually finished any of the games since the first one, I would just get bored so quickly with what seemed like doing the same thing over and over again. So I’ve got to give AC3 credit, I finished it all the way through. Of course, I was playing catch-up on some of the story elements that were going on, but I got the gist of what was happening with the overall meta-story.

Assassin's Creed 3 Naval Battle Broadside

I’d say the enemy got a bit close.

I’d have to say my favorite part of Assassin’s Creed 3 was the naval battles. They felt really well done, they were pretty simple, by no means a simulation, but I found them really fun and enjoyable.

I think something else that helped me enjoy this game more than previous, was all the recognizable historical elements. I don’t know the history of Italy off hand, but setting the game during the Revolutionary War was a great move, these are times and places that I know about and am more personally aware of.

I am really curious where the series is going to go from here. The end of this game was pretty interesting and raises quite a few questions that I look forward to having answered.

Batman: Arkham City

Batman Arkham City

Ok, so actually this was an end of 2011 game. But I didn’t play it until 2012, so it stays damnit!

Seriously though, between this and Arkham Asylum, I’ve never wanted to be Batman more. When I’m playing these games I just feel like I AM BATMAN. The fighting is fluid and fast paced, adding to the sensation that you’re not just sitting there pushing buttons, but acting and reacting to the foes around you.

The music was also great, I’m a big fan of the Nolan trilogy, and the music and mood of this game really seemed to echo those movies to me. That really helped the feeling of being engrossed in the game.

This is another game that I just can’t wait for more of!
