Star Trek Deep Space Nine Soundtrack Collection

A review of the new Deep Space Nine music collection

Star Trek Deep Space Nine Soundtrack Collection

Lately, there have been quite a few new releases in the Star Trek soundtrack area. I’ve managed to pick up the new releases for Star Trek 2, Star Trek 6, and Star Trek: First Contact, which have always been my favorites. Now I recently picked up the Star Trek Deep Space Nine Soundtrack Collection, which is a great piece to add to my Star Trek music collection!

I’ve always been a bit of a music geek. Well actually, I mean I’m into geeky music, movie and tv show soundtracks was what I listened to long before I got into other types of music. And seeing that I’ve always been a Star Trek fan, I’ve gathered up a bit of a collection of Star Trek music soundtracks. So adding this 4-disc set from my favorite Star Trek series was certainly worth the price!

The music in DS9 seemed, more alive may be the way to put it, than the music from TNG. Especially in the later seasons, as the Dominion War ramped up. Some of my favorite tracks on this set come from Sacrifice of Angles and In The Pale Moonlight, which also happen to be some of my favorite episodes of the show. Really the whole set is well worth listening to, and with over 5 hours of music here, there is plenty to go through.

Deep Space Nine SoundtrackSo the set is broken up over 4 discs, Disc One features music by Dennis McCarthy, and the Main Title & End Credits of Seasons 1-3. Disc Two features Jay Chattaway’s contributions to the series, along with the Main Title & End Credits for Seasons 4-7.

The third disc features music by some of the guest composers that scored the show now and then. This disc includes some of my favorite episodes, like The Siege of AR-558. Also included are alternate mixes for the main title and end credits, which is a nice little treat. Disc four is titled The Lost Album, and features more complete scorings from the episodes Our Man BashirTrials and Tribble-ations, and What You Leave Behind.

All in all, I have to say I love this set. It’s great to have such a massive amount of music that has not been released previously. If you haven’t picked this up yet, and you have any interest in doing so, I suggest you grab it soon. It’s a limited edition set of only 3000.
